How to Apply - WEST

Eligibility

For those selected by GISC as a participant-in WEST Program, KUSCO will review their application materials. All participants selected by GISC must meet the following program eligibility requirements at least.

  • Be a citizen of Republic of Korea
  • Be a bona fide post-secondary college/university student or a recent graduate
  • Provide proof of English language proficiency
  • Provide proof of sufficient financial resources to support themselves throughout their WEST program and for their return home.
  • Not be accompanied by spouse or dependents.

Application Materials

  • A completed and signed KUSCO-WEST Program Application Form ( Download Form)
  • Copy of a valid passport page and name/issuance page
  • A same set of documents you have submitted to GISC (School records, Transcripts, Proof of English Proficiency test scores and a Recommendation letter)
  • If you have previously visited US as a J-1, copy of previous US visa and DS-2019

How to Apply

If you have been accepted by GISC (Global Internship Support Center) to participate in the WEST program, please follow the below instructions step by step.

  • Download the KUSCO WEST program application form.
  • Print, fill out, sign and submit the application form in hard copy to your GISC representative along with additional supporting documents (refer page 2, application checklist). GISC will scan and forward your application material to KUSCO for final review and processing.
  • KUSCO will confirm receipt of your application by email.
  • If additional information or English language interview is required, you will be notified by your GISC representative
  • When your application has been accepted, you will be notified by your GISC representative. KUSCO will mail a packet of WEST program materials, including DS-2019 to GISC.

4. KUSCO Refund Policy

Korea Cancellation Before DS-2019 is issued SEVIS($180) and Program Fee($8,020) will be returned
Korea After DS-2019 is issued Program Fee($8,020) will be returned
Korea/US Visa and US entry is denied Program Fee($8,020) will be returned
US Withdrawal from the program while 50% or
less of the language training program is
completed and no internship has been
secured
Prorated Language Program Tuition Fee pursuant to the
refund policy of the language institution and unexpended
Language Program Tuition Fee by Sponsors (if
applicable), and Internship Sponsorship Fee
US Withdrawal from WEST Program where 50%
or more of the language training program is
completed and internship has been secured
(Assumes that zero days of Internship were
used)
Prorated Language Program Tuition Fee pursuant to the
refund policy of the language institution and unexpended
Language Program Tuition Fee by Sponsors (if
applicable), and partial Internship Sponsorship Fee
US GEC’s withdrawal from WEST Program
where 50% or more of the language training
program is completed and internship has
been secured (Assumes that zero days of
Internship were used)

How to Obtain a Visa for WEST program

In order to apply for a visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate, you must first receive a SEVIS generated DS-2019. KUSCO will send you the appropriate SEVIS-generated DS-2019 form when you have been accepted as a participant in an exchange program. To find out the details of applying for a J-1 visa in the country in which you are located, please visit the website of the U.S. Embassy located in your country.
