| KUSCO is gratified that your organization is interested in hosting an international intern through our organization. KUSCO is uniquely situated to participate in the WEST program as an Exchange Visitor sponsor. With its understanding of university and industry-based academics and practitioners throughout the United States and Korea and also their willingness to be an integral part of this exchange, KUSCO will provide a professional relevance that reflects the purpose of WEST, as articulated by the two governments. |
| The WEST program is an innovative exchange program created in late 2008 by a Memorandum of Understanding between Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan of the Republic of Korea. The program will allow qualifying university students and recent university graduates from the Republic of Korea to enter the United States for a period up to 18 months on J-1 exchange visitor visas. This visa will allow the students the opportunity to study English, participate in professional internships, and to travel independently. |
| Since its establishment since 1997 by the mutual agreement between US and Korea, KUSCO has focused on fostering the bi-lateral science and technology exchange in the policy, research and education areas. The WEST Program is designed to provide benefit to both host and participants, as well as fulfill the promise as established by the two governments when the program was established: to promote mutual understanding between the United States and the Republic of Korea in these areas.

| This program is not intended to fill labor gaps within the hosting organization. This program is designed to increase the capability of your organization through the exchange of skills, thinking, and practices through the experience of international training as exchange visitors. Your organization will experience diversity and an international perspective through the participants in this program, and your participation. |
| Before making the commitment to hosting participants, please consult with KUSCO-WEST experts and consider the following: |
- A training plan that strengthens the prospective Participants’ academic and/or career background and future plans;
- A training plan that your organization can afford;
- The proposed training should be progressive in skill acquisition and development
If you feel this program is right for both you and the prospective intern, the next step is to contact KUSCO WEST (1-703-942-5870 or west@kusco.org) to discuss an Internship Placement Plan.
Once you have completed the necessary paperwork, your prospective intern will submit his or her application to KUSCO so that the completed application to KUSCO will be reviewed. |
