The Purpose of the National Mathematics and Science Competition (NMSC) is

1) to demonstrate and teach the importance of science and engineering to the new generation of Korean-American students and to promote their interest in mathematics and careers in the fields of science and engineering.

2) to allow young Korean-American students to meet professional Korean scientists and engineers from various field to explore networks, learn Korean heritage and culture and to share their significance skills. KUSCO and KSEA has co-organized and hosted the NMSC since 2008. Every year, KUSCO sponsors a grant for national winner award.

Students from 4th grade through 11th grade of students can participate in this competition on two subject matters; math and science. Once a year, this competition takes place in many different cities(Chapter based) in the U.S. and Canada. The math competition is in the form of a written examination and the science competition is a group competition in which several grades of students are grouped and work to solve the given science topics together.
No calculators or rulers are allowed for the math competition. The competition will last 60 minutes for the 4th through 8th grade; and 90 minutes for the 9th, 10th and 11th.
