From December 5 – 9, WEST Program Director Jim Kelman and Program Manager Seong Ho Kang were in Seoul, to meet our new Round 8 WEST participants and to conduct orientation. KUSCO Director JD Kim, in Seoul on other business, participated in several of the events as well. The total number of KUSCO-WEST participants was 28 out of 80 and rest of students was allocated to other two sponsor organizations. Since this was extra round within FY2012, total selected students was smaller compared to other rounds.
KUSCO is also pleased to announce that Jim, Director of WEST program, received a special award from the Minister of Education, Science & Technology for his and KUSCO’s role in promoting cultural exchange between the two countries. In addition to orientation, KUSCO held meetings with MEST, with the other program sponsors, as well as with the US Embassy. Jim and Seong Ho also met with top officers of the American Chamber of Commerce in Seoul to discuss future collaboration.
Follow-up to the orientation of the R8 WEST participants occurred in both Northern Virginia and New York, as Jim and Seong Ho met with the recently-arrived westies to help them to settle into their new surroundings and to begin the process of course selection for their English language programs.
